Welcome to wide open spaces...

The Amazon forest is constantly changing, and decreasing but some areas are still protected. Below you find a couple of maps that may be useful. But they will take a while to download.

Javari (320 Kb) This map shows the entire Javari area and the limits of the indigenous land which was finally demarcated thanks to European funding in year 2000 but is still not completely protected.

The actual size of the Javari indigenous land is almost a million hectares, or the equivalent of Florida, Holland or Portugal. It is the home of five contacted tribes and at least another five unknow isolated indigenous groups.

The Brazilian Amazon region (420 Kb) This map shows the entire Brazilian rain forest region and the different protected indigenous areas and their stage of demarcation.
