The
Amazon forest is constantly changing, and decreasing but some
areas are still protected. Below you find a couple of maps that
may be useful. But they will take a while to download.
Javari
(320 Kb) This
map shows the entire Javari area and the limits of the indigenous
land which was finally demarcated thanks to European funding in
year 2000 but is still not completely protected.
The
actual size of the Javari indigenous land is almost a million
hectares, or the equivalent of Florida, Holland or Portugal. It
is the home of five contacted tribes and at least another five
unknow isolated indigenous groups.
The
Brazilian Amazon region (420 Kb) This
map shows the entire Brazilian rain forest region and the different
protected indigenous areas and their stage of demarcation.
